El pasado jueves 20 quedó inaugurado el 48 FIC de Gijón. La gala empezó a las 20:30 y fue presentada por Estibaliz Gabilondo, presentadora de CQC. El festival se inauguro con la proyección en el Teatro Jovellanos de Gijón del largometraje 'Asfixia', película que obtuvo el premio especial del Jurado al Mejor Reparto Coral en Sundance y que cuenta con la interpretación de Anjelica Huston.
Una de las principales novedades de esta edición es la venta de las entradas a través de las páginas web del festival, del Teatro Jovellanos y de Cajastur además de añadir una película española a la sección oficial, aunque fuera de concurso, Las dos vidas de Andrés Rabadán del director Ventura Durall.
El director del certamen, José Luis Cienfuegos, aseguró en declaraciones a Europa Press que la sección oficial se acerca a cumplir la misión de tomar el pulso a lo que es el cine contemporáneo, el cine más creativo. Destacó, igualmente, la apuesta por la producción audiovisual de los jóvenes valores de Asturias.
En cuanto a los jurados, destaca la presencia de la actriz Malena Alterio en el jurado Internacional, y Eva Hache en el jurado de Cortometrajes. Elena Oroz, Darío Oliviera y Claudio Utrera estarán en el Jurado de Documental y en el Jurado Fipresci, se encontrarán Ruediger Suchsland, Joan Millaret y Maja Volk.
